Custom Electrical Carts

Client

Electrical Contractor in Ottawa

Challenge

The client required an enclosure that would safely and securely store all of his tools while on large scale construction sites. Because this custom electrical cart had to be robust enough to use on big commercial construction sites, safety and power were of utmost concern. It presented an interesting opportunity as Davtair would need to produce a highly specialized product with features that didn’t exist on the commercial market at the time.

Solution

Davtair designed an electrical cart on wheels with a built-in mechanism for a retractable power cord, allowing the client to be aware of its location at all times and avoid worrying about leaving it lying around, something which could potentially cause a serious accident.

The cart consisted of a shelf for reading and storing blueprints and several storage drawers so the client could easily organize his tools. Davtair built the cart using materials that could withstand the harsh nature of major construction sites and protect his tools and blueprints. This was especially important as he would often need to leave his electrical cart on the site until the job was complete.

Result

The electrical contractor was extremely pleased with Davtair’s solution and its ability to address his needs. Thus far, Davtair has completed several orders for the same client, some of which are meant for other electrical contractors in his professional network. Upon learning about this electrical cart, even electricians at competitor companies have inquired about ordering them for their own use.

Water Baggers

Client

Department of National Defence (DND)

Challenge

The client had an urgent need to help people affected by the Rwandan genocide get access to clean drinking water. To address their needs amidst this emergency, Davtair had to build a life-saving solution that was easy to transport, simple to set up, and able to withstand adverse conditions.

Solution

Davtair developed a sophisticated containerized water bagger system whereby potable water could be collected and distributed in sterile plastic bags. The self-supporting system consists of a generator, filtration system, storage unit, conveyor system, and waterproof lighting all encased in a rugged ISO marine container. This custom-built container ensures that the system can be transported by land, sea, or air in a safe and easy manner.

Result

Davtair set up the water bagger system in a matter of weeks, allowing for its quick deployment to Rwanda and providing much-needed aid to the emergency situation.

Since then, all of the DND's water baggers have been built by Davtair. One of them was used in Winnipeg, Canada during the Red River flood, a natural disaster which had devastating effects on the residents’ ability to collect purified water.

Because Davtair owns the intellectual property rights for the water baggers, new features are constantly being added to improve the product’s functionality.

Thanks to the success of Davtair’s systems in emergency situations, they are now deployed on three continents by the military, international aid organizations, and civil disaster relief agencies. In addition to building the water bagger systems, Davtair also provides on-going training and support to Canadian Forces so that they have the knowledge to operate and maintain the systems independently.

Electrical Enclosures

Client

Valley Utilities

Challenge

The client required a customized electrical enclosure that would safely and securely protect bridge de-icing electrical distribution system panels from the elements. In addition to being an unconventional size, the distribution system panels required specific component integration not found in typical off the shelf electrical enclosures. The main distribution system panel needed to be weatherproof and certain components needed to be viewed from the outside to ensure the system was operational or to read meters, all without opening the enclosure. When access to the components was necessary, the enclosure needed to have unique restrictions to different service groups, each with their own padlock and responsibilities.

Solution

The fabrication of this electrical enclosure was unconventional due to the unique size of the panels and instruments. Valley Utilities brought all the necessary electrical components and panels to Davtair for an initial consultation. Within an hour, Davtair designed a customized National Electrical Manufacturer Association (NEMA) rated weatherproof electrical enclosure. The heavy duty enclosure can withstand the ingress of rain, sleet, snow as well as other foreign objects like dirt and dust. View ports provide visual access to the meters and a double hydra-lock allows multiple user groups to service specific instruments on the panel.

Result

Within a week of the initial consultation, Davtair produced the customized electrical enclosure. Valley Utilities was very satisfied with the integration of the specific panels and instruments as well as the speed at which the enclosure was built. Davtair produces customized electrical enclosure solutions without the typical customization and delivery time.

MSVS Doors

Client

Department of National Defence (DND)

Challenge

Canada’s Department of National Defence (DND) had a requirement on the Medium Support Vehicle System (MSVS) new ISO containers for a door system that would handle operator traffic and withstand rigorous military use. A latching system needed to be implemented so that people inside could still exit even if the door was locked from the outside.

The door’s vertical sliding windows had to withstand severe wash down conditions encountered during transport on board ships and on roads. It also required to have an escape panel in case someone or something was blocking the door and the occupants were unable to get out.

Solution

These specifications required highly customized work, which falls well within the realm of Davtair’s capabilities. Davtair designed the doors to meet all requirements, built prototypes, and put them through rigorous testing for quality assurance. Because Davtair has worked extensively with DND and successfully provided them with a variety of solutions for years, they trusted Davtair’s design capabilities.

Result

The quality MSVS door solution designed by Davtair impressed DND. As a result Davtair has been commissioned to produce thousands of these types of doors for the MSVS project other military applications as well.
